Leg-length assessment.
For hip replacement.

Hip. is a proposed optical measurement aid for assessing changes in leg length during total hip replacement. Single-use reference tags. A reusable reader. A baseline to compare against.

01 / Single-use tag set

A fresh set for one procedure.

The proposed Hip. pack contains a HIP REF tag and a THIGH tag for one hip-replacement procedure. Their roles and final attachment method require validation.

Measurement uncertaintyNot established

A demonstration of the intended workflow. No camera, patient data or actual measurement.

ILLUSTRATION, NOT A CLINICAL INSTRUMENT

The values show relative marker movement, not anatomical leg length. Accuracy and uncertainty have not been established. Set closure is simulated.

THE NEXT LAYER / VOICE + SOUND

A word to capture.
A signal to explore.

Proposed voice control for the optical reader. A separate research channel for instrument vibrations. Two ways to explore a more intuitive Hip. workflow.

A proposed voice interface could let the surgeon request an optical reading without touching the display. The optical reference would still need to be valid.

A proposed reusable contact sensor could record instrument vibrations alongside optical observations. The research question: how do those signals change as an implant is seated?

Different signal. Meaning still to establish.

Generated examples, not patient recordings. Acoustic analysis is a separate research direction; it does not establish leg length, implant stability or fracture risk.

KEEP THE SINGLE-USE SET SIMPLE

Passive optical tags for one procedure. The proposed voice and acoustic electronics would sit in reusable accessories.

DEVELOPMENT, WITH PURPOSE

Clear about
what comes next.

Hip. is the first product concept from MeasureXn, developed for discussion with orthopaedic surgeons.

Can Hip. be used in surgery today?+

No. The visuals and demonstration describe an early concept. Hip. is not available for clinical use or purchase, and no clinical performance or regulatory approval is claimed.

What would the tags measure?+

The tags would provide identifiable optical references. A calibrated reader and software would measure their movement. Relating that movement to anatomical leg length requires a defined clinical method, stable attachment and validation.

What does “single use” mean here?+

The proposed tag set is dedicated to one procedure and then retired. The reader and display are reusable. Sterility, packaging, disposal and any software enforcement of single use are design requirements still to be established.

What do voice and acoustic sensing add?+

Voice control is proposed as a way to request optical readings without touching a screen. A separate contact-sensing research channel would explore instrument vibration patterns. This website simulates both; it does not listen to you. Acoustic signals are not used here to determine leg length, implant stability or fracture risk.

What needs proving first?+

The intended clinical measurement, anatomical references, attachment stability, accuracy and repeatability, visibility under operating conditions, and the sterile workflow. A controlled bench prototype comes before patient use. The two-tag layout and the skin placement in the concept image are illustrative; a stable relationship to the underlying anatomy has not been demonstrated.

HIP. / SURGEON CONCEPT BRIEF

Leg-length assessment for hip replacement.

Hip. is a MeasureXn product concept: a proposed optical measurement aid for orthopaedic surgeons to assess changes in leg length during total hip replacement. A single-use tag set is paired with a reusable reader and display.

The immediate goal is a controlled bench prototype and a clinician-defined measurement method. Final marker geometry, attachment, accuracy, sterile handling and clinical suitability are not established.

Proposed voice control would request an optical capture. Optional sound would confirm the capture. A separate acoustic research channel could investigate instrument vibrations during insertion; it does not establish leg length, implant stability or fracture risk.

All readings, voice commands and waveforms on this site are simulated. The pack lifecycle demonstrates an intention, not a deployed medical-device capability.
